Dr. Andrej Koren completed his studies in Geography and History at the Pedagogical Academy in Maribor and in Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana (UL). He obtained his Master’s degree in Educational Management from Manchester Metropolitan University, England, where he also earned his Ph.D. in Leadership and Organizational Theories in Education in 2002. Dr. Koren has extensive experience as a teacher in primary and secondary schools, having served as the principal of Janko Padežnik Primary School in Maribor for 17 years and as the director of the National School for Leadership in Education for 19 years.
With years of experience in training and educating principals and other education professionals, he has been actively involved in modernizing the Slovenian education system. He was the responsible and chief editor of the journal Leadership in Education. Dr. Koren has led and participated in numerous research projects in Slovenia, the EU, OECD, and US AID. He has lectured at prestigious universities worldwide and at the European Commission, and has been a member of the presidencies of professional associations such as ICSEI, ENIRELM, and ATEE. He led international projects on principal certification in North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dr. Koren mentors students in the Master’s programs at MFDPŠ and supervises doctoral students at MFDPŠ, the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor, the Faculty of Education at UL, and the Faculty of European and State Studies.
