The beginning of a new academic year is not only about starting university. For many students, it also means moving to a new city or even a new country. The first weeks in Lublin can be a time of discovering new places, dealing with everyday formalities, meeting new people and gradually becoming part of the academic community.
For international students, this process may bring additional challenges connected with language, administrative procedures and adapting to life in Poland.
That is why we encourage WSPA students to discover Baobab in Lublin – a community space created by the Homo Faber Association together with its partners to support social, cultural and professional integration and to bring together new and long-term residents of the city.
Support for international students in Lublin
Baobab offers a wide range of free support for people who are new to Lublin, including:
- legal and administrative consultations concerning residence procedures, employment and other formal matters,
- information about healthcare and social benefits,
- intercultural assistance, including support during visits to public offices,
- consultations concerning employment opportunities and the labour market,
- psychological support and crisis intervention,
- Polish language courses for adults at different levels, as well as conversation sessions and language workshops,
- access to a multilingual library,
- workshops, cultural events and activities supporting integration,
- craft and computer workspaces.
All Baobab activities and services are free of charge and available in Polish, English and Ukrainian.
City walks and the Student Discussion Club
In October, Baobab is planning another series of city walks for students who are new to Lublin. They are a great opportunity to discover the city, learn more about its most important places and meet other people who are also beginning a new chapter of their lives here.
Students are also invited to join meetings of the Student Discussion Club – a space for conversation, exchanging experiences and making new connections.
Activities like these can make the first weeks in a new city much easier. Access to reliable information, language and administrative support, as well as opportunities to meet other people, can help international students adapt more quickly and focus on their studies and university life.
